Members of the Altar Society take turns to keep the House of the Lord spotless and make it truly a Heaven on Earth. Working in teams, usually two adults  or an adult and one or more children, they vacuum the carpet, dust the furnishings, clean the restrooms, etc. on a weekly basis. Additionally, two special workdays are scheduled prior to Christmas and Easter to oil the pews and woodwork. Altar Society members also change and launder the altar linens, take care of the vestments, and other duties as needed.  Membership in the Altar Scoeity is not restricted to only women.
